SRTP assessment of passenger ships: a simulation tool

چکیده
Abstract Recent years have seen increasing attention being paid towards the problems related to safety and security onboard ships. As a result, International Maritime Organization has issued several new Regulations regarding ships’ systems that must be considered during vessel design phases. In particular, one of most important approaches introduced by this set rules consists Safe Return Port (SRtP) concept: basically, ship itself represents its best lifeboat. Essential on-board passenger ships shall designed in order both guarantee their functionality allow return nearest port specific emergency situations. Consequently, it is evident designers should pay great these since early stages project. framework, proper IT tools able simulate can represent valuable aid ensure compliance with SRtP requirements. paper, basic principles are thoroughly presented. Furthermore, an tool, specifically implemented address suggested approach for systems, analyzed.

Modeling and Simulation of the Evacuation Process of Passenger Ships
The need to safely evacuate within very short time a large number of people from a confined space, such as the superstructure of large passenger ships, is a difficult task of great practical interest, as documented in recent discussions at the Marine Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organisation (MSC-IMO). This paper describes the methodology utilized by the code EVDEMON (EVacuati...
متن کاملMicroscopic Simulation of Evacuation Processes on Passenger Ships
The analysis of evacuation processes on-board passenger ships has attracted increasing interest over the last years. Most of the approaches utilise so called flow models. Cellular automaton models, widely used for traffic simulations, on the other hand provide a more natural approach towards pedestrian dynamics. Two major difficulties are intrinsical to the problem: two-dimensional movement of ...

The analysis of evacuation processes onboard passenger ships has attracted increasing interest over the last years. Cellular automaton models, widely used for traffic simulations, provide a natural approach towards pedestrian dynamics. Two major difficulties are intrinsical to the problem: two-dimensional movement of pedestrians and the complexity of psychological and social influences. An impr...
متن کاملEvacuability of Passenger Ships at Sea
The term Evacuability (passenger evacuation performance capability) entails a wide range of capabilities encompassing evaluation of evacuation time, identification of potential bottlenecks, assessment of accommodation module layout, life saving appliances, passenger familiarisation with a ship’s environment, crew training, effective evacuation procedures/strategies, intelligent decision support...
متن کاملCollision and Grounding of Passenger Ships – Risk Assessment and Emergency Evacuations
This paper considers collision and grounding of passenger ships. Subsequent to a collision or grounding, there might be water ingress into the compartments and the risk of sinking exists. In such circumstances, timely and effective evacuation of all passengers and crew will be extremely important, and failure to evacuate in time may lead to catastrophic consequences. This paper presents probabi...
